Pi is pronounced as 皮 ( Pí , 2nd intonation ) and it means leather in Chinese.
A collection of hand bags and leather goods currently being manufactured in northwest England and ready for Winter 2019.
I remembered going shopping with my mum during Chinese New Year when I was really young and she suddenly stopped outside a shop window and was marvelling at one of the bags in the window display. I asked her if she liked it and she said it was amazing! I came from a normal middle class family, never poor but definitely not rich. But as a child I was lucky to be given everything I wanted. If I wanted a certain food or a certain toy, my mum would have certainly gotten it for me. So my first naive response to that was why don't you walk in to get it? She simply hushed me and said that the bag too expensive and unimportant and we simply left to continue food shopping. Thinking back, my mum spent a couple thousands on New Year goodies for the family, especially buying the coveted canned abalones by the dozens where the family would be feasting on for days/weeks due to the sheer volume of it. Abalones were not necessary for a Chinese New Year celebration and definitely not at that volume. She would have been easily able to afford the bag if she were to forego this little treat. I would always ask her why would she buy so many cans of the shellfish and she would simply say that it was one of my favourite food (it was). Come to think of it, she never bought anything frivolous or expensive for herself but would rather spend everything on the kids instead.
Now that I am a designer, my first collection is dedicated to my mother. Because I will always remember that she gave up on the black python/monogram handbag sitting behind the window.
